Review

The Baby Lock Accolade 6-7-8 serger is not a machine designed for beginners nor the faint of heart. It’s loaded with everything in the Baby Lock technological arsenal, and all that greatness is (unsurprisingly) reflected in the price. But those experts who have used or own one can’t say enough good about it. On top of an impressive number of stitch options, which includes a cover stitch option with a chain-off feature, this machine almost drives itself. Every mundane, frustrating threading process is automatic and this model consistently produces perfectly flat, even stitches on all fabric types.

Stitch Options

Like the Baby Lock Evolution, the Accolade includes a stunning 87 stitch options. The 2-3-4-thread overlock options produce perfect seams and fully encased fabric edges. The 3-thread narrow flatlock stitch, the ladder stitch and the blanket stitch all allow you to flex your creative muscles when applying decorative effects. The awesome 3-thread standard rolled and reverse Wave Stitches are things of beauty. As if the above stitch options aren’t enough, the Accolade also includes 4- and 5-thread safety stitches, a 7-thread Wave Stitch and an 8-thread stitch option.

Product Features

ExtroadinAir Threading System™

With just a gust of air, this patented looper threading system instantly threads all three loopers at the same time. This is a technological development previously unavailable in sergers. The typically frustrating and time-consuming process of threading serger loopers is extinct in the Accolade.

Automatic Thread Delivery System

Once the Accolade is threaded, all you need to do to get stitching is choose the stitch you plan to use and go! This serger will immediately and continually deliver a perfectly smooth and balanced line of stitches on any type or thickness of fabric using any type or brand of thread. You can even join two or more different types of thicknesses of fabric without affecting the quality of the stitching.

Exclusive Wave Stitch

This unique stitch, using up to 8 threads, is a one-of-a-kind decorative stitch in the serging world. You can really allow your creativity to take wing by using threads of different colors and types, by adjusting stitch length and width or by using more textured threads. Using metallic threads would be visually arresting too.

Chain and Cover Tension Adjustment

One tension dial controls all three coverstitch needles, which saves you time when getting ready to sew. In addition, Baby Lock simplified the often-complicated process of using the coverstitch option by including an automatic chain-off feature on this serger. This also produces more secure, consistent stitching when working with heavier fabrics or multiple layers.

Warranties

The Baby Lock Accolade includes a 25-year limited warranty on the machine, a 10-year warranty on parts, a 5-year warranty on all electrical components and 1-year coverage on labor.

Verdict

When a serger can handle up to 8 threads and 5 needles, you know it’s a serious machine. When it’s made by Baby Lock, you know it’s a well-made, expensive machine. The features, although not all automatic, are many – and every innovation has the user in mind. Despite being designed for highly experienced sewists, its level of user friendliness might just entice someone determined to build his or her serging skills and experience on one of the best home sergers on the market. It’s a Rolls Royce.
