Review

If you’re interested in expanding your sewing skills, there’s no better way to do it than investing in a reasonably-priced, user-friendly serger. Juki kept convenience in mind by designing nearly every feature and function on this portable serger to quickly respond to the turn of a dial. And this model can’t be beat when it comes to ease of use. This lightweight serger produces stitches as flawless as those completed on more expensive machines.

Stitch Options

In addition to providing you with 15 different stitch options, the Juki MO-104D allows you to change stitch length by turning a dial on the right side of the machine. The range of available stitch lengths varies between 1 mm and 4 mm. It’s also possible to change the stitch widths from 3 mm to 5 mm from the left needle and from 3 mm to 5 mm from the right needle. The rolled hem stitch width can be adjusted between 1.8 mm and 2.2 mm.

Specifications

Speed: 1,500 stitches per minute
Threads: 2-3-4
Color-Coded: Yes
Light: Bulb
Weight: 15.5 lbs.
Dimensions: 12.4 inches by 11.5 inches by 11.5 inches

Product Features

 Lay-in Thread Tension Slots

Threading the machine is fast and easy. Simply lay each thread in the proper color-coded slot without having to wrap them around any guides. Simply press the thread down until it clicks into place, then follow the threading direction. Threading the lower looper is even easier. It’s done in seconds by sliding the thread into its slot and snapping the looper.

Adjustable Differential Feed

The differential feed includes a ratio range of between 0.7 mm to 2 mm. This adjustable feature ensures perfectly flat, even stitches and beautiful ruffles or lettuce edges on sleeves. By adjusting the dial while the machine is being operated, you can create a variety of creative results on all types of fabrics.

Automatic Rolled Hemming

The fingertip control feature on the MO-194 helps you produce flawless, even rolled hems without changing the foot or throat plate. The automatic rolled hemming feature rolls the fabric’s cut edge over itself before a strong, secure line of stitches secures it firmly in place. Using this feature on fine fabrics creates delicate, yet sturdy hems.

Easy Thread Tension Adjusting

Adjusting the thread tension is as easy as pushing a lever conveniently located on the front center of the machine. While the ideal setting for most knit fabrics and serger threads is typically at about 4, the proper tension setting can vary widely depending on the fabric you’re working on and the type of threads you’re using. With a setting range between 1 and 9, finding the right tension setting for each project will be a snap.

Adjustable Cutting Blade

When position of the cutting blade is adjusted, it changes the cutting width of fabric edges, producing perfectly even seams and rolled hems. The position of the side blade can also be adjusted to increase or decrease the distance between the blade and the needle. This feature make it easier to work with thicker fabrics or use special stitch options.

Warranties

The Juki MO-104D includes a 5-year mechanical warranty, a 1-year warranty on electrical components and a 90-day warranty on labor and service.

Verdict

This Juki serger is one of the most versatile and productive models in their product line. The lay-in threading feature alone is unmatched by any other machines in the same price range and serger class. The design, multiple features, and quality of construction not only work together to produce exceptional results, they clearly illustrate why Juki is an industry leader.
