Where to Find the Best Value
This well-constructed overlocker from Janome is a basic mechanical machine with some helpful features. Like most Janome overlockers, the cost of this model is somewhat higher than others. However, it operates smoothly and quietly, and provides you with lovely, even stitches. The differential feed and adjustable upper cutting blade provide you with better control over any type of fabric you wish to use. It handles fine chiffons to multiple fabric layers with ease. The 6234XL arrives pre-threaded, which is a plus for anyone new to using an overlocker.
In addition to rolled and narrow hemming stitch options, the 6234XL includes 2-, 3- and 4 overlocking stitches, decorative overedging stitches, and a fine, 2-thread picot edging stitch option for finer fabrics and lettuce edged sleeves and hemming. The seam width can be adjusted between 1mm and 5mm, and the seam length is adjustable from 2.0mm to 3.3mm for narrow stitching to 7.5mm for wide stitches.

Colour-Coded Threading System
Learning to hand-thread an overlocker is often both intimidating and frustrating to new and experienced users. Luckily, the Janome 6234XL features an easy-to-use lay-in threading system. The colour-coded guides and self-threading lower looper make it easy to complete the threading process with little to no stress or hassle.
Adjustable Differential Feed
The 6234XL includes an adjustable differential feed, which gives you better control over any fabric type or thickness, including delicate laces and heavy denims. Adjusting the feed changes the speed with which the machine’s feed dogs operate and how they grip the fabrics. The differential feed can be easily adjusted to operate at a ratio of 0.5mm to 2.25mm by simply choosing the proper setting on the control dial.
Rolled Hem Change-Over Feature
Compared to many other overlocker machines in the entry-level classification, this Janome model allows you to easily change into the rolled hem stitch option without the necessity of changing the needle plate. By moving a lever conveniently located on the side of the machine, you can quickly switch between traditional overlocking stitches and the rolled hem feature.
Adjustable Cutting Width
Having the ability to adjust the cutting width on all types of fabrics allows you more precise control over the end results of any number of projects. Additionally, the built-in upper knife release control allows you to safely retract the knife when the automatic cutting feature is not needed. The cutting width can be adjusted between 3.1mm and 7.3.
Purchase of the Janome 6234XL includes a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Like all Janome overlocking machines, Janome did not cut any corners when constructing the 6234XL. There is little to no vibration during operation, which is often common on other machine brands and models. The powerful motor allows you to work on the heaviest fabrics with ease, yet the stitch quality provides consistently clean, professional results on the finest fabrics. Whilst this model does not include a wealth of automatic features, it does offer an impressive ease-of-use advantage, a plus for new owners. The accessory package included with the machine contains a good array of tools and extra parts. If you are interested in a sturdy, long-lasting overlocker, try one at your local shop.
