The Singer Pro 5 14T968DC Singer is a top-of-the-line serger with enough versatility to be used as an exclusive professional machine. It provides a 5-4-3-2 stitch configuration with a variety of stitch styles. It offers a number of accessories and adjustable components to make operation as comfortable and customizable as possible. The Singer 14T968DC is a serger worthy of use for the most important sewing tasks.

While the odd locations of the loopers and upper needles can make threading difficult at first, it consistently produces smooth, perfectly even stitches on a variety of fabric types and thicknesses. The accompanying workbook includes comprehensive, illustrated threading instructions and stitch techniques and tips.

Product Features

The Singer 14T968DC serger has a 5-4-3-2 stitch capability to ensure a perfect stitch with rolled hems, cover hems, chain stitching and more. Its color-coded threading system features easy-to-read diagrams to make threading easier. The automatic tension control system allows for stitches to remain perfectly balanced and even. Its clean pocket is attachable and keeps the work area free of clutter by storing fabric scraps. The sewing light keeps the area illuminated.

The Singer 14T968DC features four built-in rolled hems with an easy-access lever for moving the stitch finger into proper position. There are seven presser feet that can be snapped on for each purpose as well as an extra-high presser foot lifter for providing extra clearance for bulky layers of fabric under the presser foot.

The stitch width and length can be adjusted for keeping seams strong and avoiding fabric bunching. The machine’s upper knife is moveable to allow the unit to continue stitching without getting in the way when fabric does not need to be cut. The presser foot pressure is adjustable for ultimate comfort with any type of fabric.

Self-Adjusting Tension System

The automatic tension system on this serger is one of its most valuable features. When you select the stitch you wish to use, the machine will instantly adjust the tensions to the proper setting. It’s as easy as turning a dial to choose your stitch before producing perfectly balanced stitches.

Coverstitch Capability

This feature alone makes the Singer Pro 5 unique among sergers. There’s no need to switch between your sewing machine and serger when working on projects or garments. You can choose between a narrow, wide or triple coverstitch.

Adjustable Differential Feed

Being able to adjust the differential feed dogs makes all the difference in stitch quality. This function controls the ratio of movement between the front and back feed dogs, which will help feed the fabric smoothly beneath the needles. This is a must for producing smooth, even stitches, especially when working with very stretchy or delicate fabrics.

Built-in Free Arm

By simply sliding the removable accessory compartment off the serger, you can transform the work area into a free arm. This feature makes it a breeze to put a professional finish on sleeve cuffs, lettuce edges, trouser hems and small or more intricate sewing projects.

Warranties

The warranties included with this machine include a 25-Year warranty covering manufacturer’s defects, 2-year coverage of electronic components and a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

Verdict

The Singer Pro 5 14T968DC is a fully versatile machine capable of achieving the most complex professional or home sewing tasks. Unlike other machines it provides a wide range of stitch styles and hem features. It is also unique in the fact that it has its own automatic self-adjusting tension control system.

While it comes in at a higher price than many other popular sergers it features more options in comfort and control by comparison. Some may feel that its flaws do not justify its price. Parts of the machine may be thin or fragile and the device can be a bit challenging to set up and maneuver.

Despite these shortcomings, its built-in capabilities and changeable presser feet, adjustable stitch control and multitude of additional accessories make it a machine that is sure to please those that are willing to accept its significant price.
