Review

In addition to a comprehensive program guide on the front, the Elna 664 Pro includes plenty of features and functions for a manual serger. Threading the machine is easier than comparable models thanks to the addition of the automatic lower looper function. Purchase includes a generous accessory package and a built-in storage area.

Stitch Options

With 12 built-in stitch options, the Elna 664 Pro offers you a wide range of choices when working on rolled hems, seams or even adding decorative stitches. Some of the options include 2- and 3-thread rolled hem stitches, 2-, 3- and 4- thread overlock stitches, 2- and 3-thread flatlock stitches, 3-thread wide and narrow hem stitches and 3- or 4- thread chain offs that can be used for decorative purposes. The stitch length can be adjusted between 1 mm and 5 mm.

Product Features

Self-threading Lower Looper

This feature alone makes threading the Elna 664 Pro less time consuming. Threading the lower looper is as easy as laying each thread into the proper color-coded slot and turning the handwheel to snap the threads into place before drawing them through the loopers. In addition, the lower looper includes a pre-tension setting lever that allows you to instantly switch from the standard serging setting to a rolled hem setting.

Adjustable Differential Feed

The 4-piece feed dog system on this serger ensures choosing the perfect setting for any fabric – from stiff vinyl to the stretchiest knits. The feed control dial on the right side of the serger is adjustable from 0.5 mm to 2.25 mm. The instruction manual will help you choose the right setting when creating perfect gathers and lettuce edges or working on heavier fabrics.

Tilting Needle Clamp

Threading the needles on some sergers can be almost as difficult and time-consuming as manually threading the loopers. The Elna 664 Pro takes all the frustration out of needle threading by providing you with the ability to easily tilt out the needle housing to a 90-degree angle with the push of a button. This not only gives you instant and excellent access to the needles, it makes threading or needle changing a breeze.

Adjustable Cutting Knives

It’s easy to maintain complete control over the width of raw edges by employing the cutting width control. The sharp, sturdy cutting blades smoothly and cleanly slice through even the sheerest fabrics with ease. Simply turn a conveniently located dial to adjust the selvage cutting width between 3 mm and 7 mm. The handy control window on the front of the machine will let you know the exact setting you chose.

Warranties

The Elna 664 Pro includes a two-year warranty on parts and labor and a 5-year mechanical warranty.

Verdict

This moderately-priced Elna model offers novice and expert sewists an exceptional range of features for a manual machine. Threading is straightforward and the tiltable needle housing makes that even easier. The 664 Pro includes a great range of stitch options and the color-coded threading guides further reduce threading frustrations. With the ability to adjust stitch length, cutting widths, and feed dog speeds, you’ll be able to produce any number of perfectly stitched projects. This well engineered, well-built machine will provide you with years of creative options.
