Product Features
Open Threading Access
Manually threading a serger can often be a frustrating, time-consuming experience. Janome took that into consideration when designing this model to make that process far less difficult. The left side of the machine’s housing opens wide so the entire threading route is easily viewed and reached. The color-coded thread guides, lay-in tension controls, and pretension setting slider for the lower looper add speed to frustration-free threading.
Quick-change Rolled Hemming
The quick change rolled hem feature included on the MOD-8933 ensures that the sheerest fabrics are perfectly folded before being stitched. Simply flicking a switch sets you up for a rolled hem stitch without the hassle of changing the presser foot, needle plate, or tension setting. This useful feature will put an elegant finish on lettuce-edged sleeves, hems, and other projects.
Adjustable Differential Feed
An adjustable differential feed eliminates the chance of stretching and puckering on all fabric thicknesses, types, and multiple layers. Choosing the right setting for the fabric you’re working on is as easy as turning a dial to a setting between 0.5 mm and 2.25 mm. This feature is also handy when you plan to make perfectly even gathers or ruffles.
Retractable Upper Thread Cutter
The easily retractable upper knife allows you to use the serger on projects that don’t require fabric cutting. Being able to retract the cutting blade also ensures greater safety when threading the machine. Along with the retractable blade, the cutting width can be easily adjusted between 3.1 mm and 7.3 mm with the turn of a conveniently located dial on the right side of the serger.
Warranties
The Janome MOD-8933 includes a 25-year limited warranty.

Verdict
This lightweight, compact Janome model may be a manual serger, but Janome spared nothing on its design and multiple features. It easily handles fabrics of all types and thicknesses and the adjustable differential feed ensures perfectly smooth, even stitches, rolled hems, gathers and pintucking. The MOD-8933 includes a very helpful manual and DVD, which makes setup and threading far easier than many models in the same serger class. It’s often said that you get what you pay for. In this case, it’s a plus.
