Review

The Juki MO-6716S is a serious 2-needle, 5-thread, industrial-grade overlock machine. Using the 5-thread safety stitch option guarantees strong, flexible stitches. In addition to being about three times the weight of a portable home serger, this model produces up to 7,000 stitches per minute. This solid workhorse is typically sold as a package, which includes a heavy metal table and Servo motor. If you’re looking for a blindingly fast, straight overlock stitch machine without any extra frills, this might be the machine for you.

Stitch Options

The 3-5 overlock stitch lengths can be adjusted between 0.8 mm and 4 mm, while stitch widths are adjustable from 1.6 mm to 6.4 mm. In addition, the presser foot can be lifted to a height of 7 mm, which makes working with thick fabrics or multiple layers far easier.

Specifications

Speed: 7,000 stitches per minute
Threads: 3-5
Color-Coded: No
Light: LED
Weight: 60 lbs.
Dimensions: 48 inches by 20 inches by 48 inches

Product Features

Servo Motor

In addition to offering quieter operation, even at top speed, the Servo motor uses up to 90 percent less energy than traditional clutch motors installed in other industrial models. In addition, you can put this motor into reverse by simply flicking a conveniently located switch. You also have the ability to select a stitch speed on this model. Once done, this serger won’t slow down or speed up, no matter how much pressure you apply to the pedal.

Adjustable Differential Feed

The adjustment features on the Juki MO-6716S include an internal micro-adjustment mechanism that’s connected to the external control. This gives you complete control over the feed dogs and feed ratio settings. The differential ratio for gathering can be adjusted between 1:2 and 1:4 and for stretching, adjustable ratio varies between 1:0.7 to 1:0.6. This allows you to produce perfect results on a variety of fabrics.

Increased Tension Control

The thread tension control ensures easier tension adjustments while using the stitch mode or while producing chain-off stitching for decorative purposes. When in the latter setting, the machine produces a beautiful soft-chain type of chain-off featuring consistently smooth, even stitches.

Advanced Stitch Control

In addition to being able to choose the number of stitches you desire by setting the control on the front panel of the serger, you can also choose the length of chain-off thread you produce at the end of each line of stitching. This control also allows you to set the length of the reduced-tension sewing when you first start sewing.

Adjustable Cutting Widths

The cutting widths of the overedge seam allowances can be manually adjusted between 1.6 mm and 6.4 mm. It’s as easy as simply loosening a set screw on both upper and lower knives, selecting the setting of your choice and then re-tightening both screws.

Warranty

The warranty on this model is limited to 90 days on labor due to defects in workmanship and construction materials.

Verdict

Juki has rightfully earned its place in the sewing industry by consistently producing high-quality machines. While the 6716S doesn’t include all the high-tech automatic functions found in their portable models, this basic overlocker is built to provide you with years of service. Even at top speed, this serger produces clean, even stitches on a wide variety of fabrics. Despite the price, this machine is designed for durability – and it includes a sturdy, spacious metal table and a quiet Servo motor.
