Review

If you’re new to sergers and want to start with a reasonably-priced, user-friendly machine, this Juki model might be just what you’re looking for. In addition to removing all fear or frustrations typically connected to threading a serger with its lay-in threading feature, Juki has managed to make nearly every function on this lightweight portable as easy as turning a dial. This well-designed serger produces stitches on par with far more expensive machines.

Stitch Options

In addition to providing you with 9 built-in stitches, the Juki MO-114D allows you to change stitch length options by simply turning a dial located on the right side of the machine. The range of available stitch lengths vary between 1 mm and 4 mm. It’s also possible to change the stitch widths from rolled hem to narrow overlock stitching in one smooth step by turning the same dial to the proper setting.

Specifications

Speed: 1,500 stitches per minute
Threads: 2-3-4
Color-Coded: Yes
Light: Bulb
Weight: 15.5 lbs.
Dimensions: 12.4 inches by 11.5 inches by 11.5 inches

Product Features

 Lay-in Thread Tension Slots

Threading couldn’t be easier than laying the threads in their color-coded slots without having to deal with wrapping them around anything. Simply press the thread down into the correct guide on top of the machine until it clicks into place before starting the easy threading process. The lower looper threader makes lower looper threading even easier. It’s done in seconds by hooking the thread and pressing a lever.

Adjustable Differential Feed

With a ration range of 0.7 mm to 2 mm, this adjustable differential feed ensures perfect gathers and smooth, flat stitches. Simply moving the dial while you operate the machine can give you a variety of different results.

Automatic Rolled Hemming

Beautiful, crisp rolled hems are created quickly and easily, without changing the foot or throat plate, with the Juki MO-114’s built-in fingertip control. This feature rolls the newly cut edge of the fabric over itself before encasing it in a strong, secure overlock stitch.

Easy Thread Tension Adjusting

Adjusting the thread tension is as easy as pushing a lever conveniently located on the front center of the machine. While the ideal setting for most knit fabrics and serger threads is typically at about 4, the proper tension setting can vary widely depending on the fabric you’re working on and the type of threads you’re using. With a setting range between 1 and 9, finding the right tension setting for each project will be a snap.

Adjustable Cutting Knife

The position of the cutting knife can be quickly and easily adjusted to produce perfectly formed rolled edges and seams. The position of the side blade can be adjusted with the touch of a dial. You can even increase or decrease the distance between the knife and the needle in order accommodate a specific fabric type or thickness or to make special stitches such as a rolled hem.

Warranties

This Juki model includes a 5-year mechanical warranty, a 1-year warranty on electrical components, and a 90-day warranty on labor and service.

Verdict

The Juki MO-114D is one of the most highly respected, dependable and productive models in the Juki line. The lay-in threading feature alone is unmatched by any other machine of the same age and in the same serge class. The design, features, and solid construction bely the reasonable price. It’s a prime example of why Juki is considered a top-rate serger manufacturer.
