With the L460, Bernina has again provided sewists with a well-made, easily operated product that produces beautiful results. This may not include all the automatic features found on other models, but this model is fast, powerful and includes a knee lever to raise and lower the presser foot, leaving your hands free to work with the fabric. It’s easy to thread and use, and includes an upper looper converter and an inspiring number of stitch options.

Product Features
Free Hand System
This advanced system on the L460 gives you complete control over the presser foot via a knee lever. Having both hands free allows you to more easily handle all types and thicknesses of fabrics – from the lightest sheers to the heaviest knits or denims.
Adjustable Differential Feed
Being able to adjust one or both feed dogs to any setting you choose gives you even more control over your stitches and the fabrics you work on. You can produce smooth, even stitches on the stretchiest fabrics or create perfectly even gathers for all types of projects. The differential feed ratios can be set between 0.7 mm and 2.0 mm.
Extension Table
If you require extra work space for larger projects or those using heavier fabrics, this Bernina model has it covered. You can easily expand your work area up to an impressive 21.6 by 15.6 inches. The unit installs easily by simply sliding the table into a groove on the machine. The table can be released with the push of a button.
Retractable Cutting Blade
This feature allows you to work on projects that don’t require having the fabric ends trimmed. This is convenient when you don’t want to switch over to your sewing machine in the middle of a project. The upper knife blade can be disengaged by pressing a knob located inside the looper cover and turning it to lock the blade into the lower position.
Micro Thread Control
This single-step tension adjustment function perfects every stitch, no matter how many threads are in use. The control ensures perfectly spaced looper stitches on every edge. Having such impressive tension control at your fingertips will reduce all those practice runs typically required to find the right tension setting for each stitch and fabric type.
Warranties
Bernina offers a 5-year warranty on the machine and defective mechanical parts and 2-year warranties on circuit boards and electrical components.

Verdict
The Bernina L460 is not your average entry-level serger. It features an impressive range of stitches and features. The extendable work area gives you increased freedom of movement and control over every type of fabric and the double LED lights are bright enough to illuminate the entire area. The stitches are smooth and precise, thanks in part to the one-touch micro thread control, and the powerful DC motor ensures speed control at all levels. Comprehensive, illustrated instructions are available in two user manuals and a DVD. If you’re looking for an excellent serger from a company with a great track record, this Bernina might be worth the investment.
