Review

Juki continues its history of producing top-rated machines with the MO-1000 serger. In addition to being a sturdy workhorse, it’s so user friendly and brimming with features that it’s the perfect machine for anyone interested in serging. In addition to its unique jet-air looper threading feature, this machine stitches while its long cutting knife makes flawless cuts every time. This well-designed machine offers most of the stitch variations of far more expensive machines.

Stitch Options

The Juki MO-1000 offers seven different stitch options, including a 2- 3- or 4-thread overlock, a 3-thread narrow overlock stitch, a 3-thread rolled hem stitch, a 3-thread flatlock stitch and a gorgeous 3-thread, lettuce edge rolled hem stitch that will add style and interest to garments constructed of the finest fabrics. No matter which stitch option you choose, every stitch is tight, secure ad perfectly formed.

The stitch widths include a 2 mm rolled hem stitch, a right needle adjustable width of between 3 mm and 7 mm and a left needle width of 5 mm to 9 mm. The stitch length can be adjusted between 1 mm and 4 mm.

Product Features

Jet-Air Looper Threading

Rather than the frustrating maze of threads most serger owners face when the cover is open, the Juki MO-1000 features two holes for easy thread insertion. The Jet-Air function pushes the lower looper threads into place in an instant. Threading the upper loopers is as easy by following the color-coded guides, feeding between 9 and 12 inches into the right opening, pushing the “Air” button and allowing the automatic needle threader to do its job.

Adjustable Differential Feed

The adjustable differential feed ensures perfect stitches, even on very fine or heavy fabrics, very stretchy knits and even snake or lizard skin. The feed, which can be adjusted while operating the machine, will provide you with a 0.7 mm to 2 mm ratio.

Easy-to-Reach Controls

The stitch length and differential feed controls are conveniently located on the right side of this serger, making it simple to quickly make necessary changes without having to stop working.

Extended Thread Cutter

Again, the MO1000 does not disappoint. The longer knife blade not only ensures clean, flawless cuts in thick or layers of fabric, it will evenly cut any fabric you feed into it. Retracting the knife blade means simply pushing a lever and the knife is to the needles, which makes handling curves easier.

Warranties

This Juki model includes a 25-year warranty on mechanical components, a 2-year warranty on electrical parts and a 1-year warranty on labor.

Verdict

When Juki decided to expand its line of home sergers, there was no skimping in quality or technological innovations. The MO-1000 is not only quiet and sturdy, it offers the user seven stitch options, a wide throat area, high-speed stitching and an automatic threading function usually found on more expensive models. In addition to being incredibly easy to use, Juki kept the user’s safety in mind by ensuring the machine won’t operate when the presser foot is in the up position or the front cover door is open or ajar. This affordable home serger is yet another example of why Juki is a leader in the industry.
