Review
The Brother 1134DW is a fast, efficient machine that allows you to have complete control over all fabric types. The free arm option lets you easily and quickly put a professional finish on cuffs, sleeves or slacks. Threading the lower looper isn’t time consuming, which makes changing threads far less frustrating than doing so on other models. The stitch-width adjustment can be controlled with the flick of a dial and this model features an impressive range of specialty stitch functions.
Stitch Options
Typical to all Brother products, this low-priced, entry-level model includes an impressive array of stitch options, including 23 different stitch functions, 3- and 4-thread overlock stitches, narrow hem and rolled hem stitches, and a ribbon lock stitch. Stitch length can be adjusted between 2 mm and 4 mm and stitch width is adjustable from 5 mm to 7 mm.

Product Features
Lower Looper Threading System
The unique F.A.S.T. lower looper threading system makes threading and changing threads quicker and easier than many sergers in the same class. The lower looper threading lever is located inside the looper cover on the right side of the serger.
Adjustable Differential Feed
Being able to adjust the differential feed dogs makes all the difference in stitch quality. Making the proper adjustments gives you and the machine better control over all fabric types and multiple layers, especially when sewing the stretchiest knits or fine, sheer fabrics. The differential feed ratio on the 1134DW is 0.7 to 2.0.
Retractable Cutting Blade
The 1134DW includes the capability to retract the upper knife blade when you’re working on projects that don’t require a trimmed edge. Retracting the blade is as easy as moving the control lever to the left. This will lower the cutting edge safely below the surface of the work area. When the blade is retracted, the portion that’s still visible can be used as a handy guide for the fabric you’re working on.
Warranties
This Brother serger includes a 25-year limited warranty on the machine, a 5-year parts warranty, and 1-year labor coverage.

Verdict
This successor to the much-loved 1034D is just as easy to thread and invariably produces clean, flat stitches on all fabric types. The construction is solid, promising you plenty of years of faithful use. The accessory package is generous and includes a gathering foot, a blindstitch foot, and a piping foot for adding decorative elements to your garments and projects. If you’re new to serging, rest assured the learning curve on this model is very low. If you’re an expert, this workhorse will not disappoint, despite the lack of bells and whistles. Brother quality at a very reasonable price is always a win-win.
