Review

Once you see and try this serger, the name becomes self-explanatory. Along with the advanced air threading system, this model is self-lubricating, features automatic tension adjustment and an amazing eight thread spool pins on top of the machine. This model is blindingly fast at 1,500 per minute, but that speed does nothing to interfere with smooth, strong stitches.

Stitch Options

The 87 stitch options on the Baby Lock Evolution is mind boggling when compared to other sergers. The chain and cover stitch functions include single, double and triple cover stitching, while the overlock functions produce perfect seams and encased fabric edges. The flatlock stitch function allows users to flex their creative muscles when applying decorative effects.

Product Features

ExtraordinAir Threading System™

With a quick burst of air, the ExtraordinAir automatic threading system instantly threads all three loopers, a function previously unheard of in sergers. The often tedious and time-consuming process of threading a serger is no more.

Unique 8/7/6 Thread Stitching

The Baby Lock Evolution provides an unmatched number of stitch combinations thanks to its 8-thread capability. With 87 stitch options at your disposal, the sky’s the limit when it comes to creating unique garments and finishing sewing projects. It’s the first machine to streamline coverstitching and overlocking into a single operation.

An Enhanced Differential Feed

A single-unit feed dog not only ensures smoother, more powerful feeding, ensures a more consistent, even gather on all types and weights of fabrics.

Automatic Thread Delivery

The thread deliver system provides a consistent, even stitch on any type of fabric using any type or brand of sewing thread. You can even switch between fabric types or thicknesses without the machine skipping a beat or a stitch.

Triple Light System

The Baby Lock Evolution’s unique light system contains three bright LEDs that illuminate the entire, large work area while eliminating any shadows common to certain types of fabric.

Unique Cover Stitch Feature

By including an automatic chain-off coverstitch feature, Baby Lock makes the sometimes involved cover stitching process easy. In addition, this new feature makes it possible to sew through heavier or layered fabrics easier than many dedicated coverstitch machines.

Warranties

The Baby Lock Evolution includes a 25-year limited warranty on the machine, a 10-year warranty on parts, a 5-year warranty on all electrical components and a one-year warranty on labor.

Verdict

The Evolution Overlocker is a no-nonsense, top-of-the-line machine designed for professionals, although its level of user friendliness also makes it a wonderful serger on which to quickly build some skills and experience. The level and amount of technologies built into this machine, especially the automatic oiling and threading system, two to eight threading options and up to 87 different stitch capabilities, are mind-boggling. This serger is a large financial investment, but well worth the expense for a working professional or someone hoping to become one.
