Where to Find the Best Value
|Singer 14SH754 Overlocker
This compact overlock machine by Singer is a basic, entry-level model with a good stitch selection and additional helpful features. Like most Singer products, the cost of this model is reasonable for what it offers you. It operates smoothly, if not entirely quietly, but that inconvenience can be remedied by purchasing an overlock pad. While the threading process is not overly difficult, the 14SH754 arrives pre-threaded – a plus for any beginner.
In addition to 2-, 3- and 4 overlocking stitches, this Singer model includes 3- and 4-thread mock stretch safety stitches, 4 types of rolled hem stitch options and a very useful flatlock stitch. You can also produce lengths of decorative, braided chain-off stitches. Unlike several overlock sewing machines in the same class, the Singer 14SH754 also allows you to effortlessly convert to a rolled hem stitch without removing the needle plate. The stitch width can be adjusted between 1mm and 4mm, and the stitch length is adjustable from 1.5mm to 6.7mm. The presser foot can be raised to a height of 4.5mm.

Colour-Coded Threading System
Learning to hand-thread an overlock sewing machine can be both frustrating and intimidating to beginners and experienced users. Luckily, this Singer model features an easy-to-use lay-in threading system. The colour-coded guides help you master the threading process by greatly reducing the stress factor. The informative user manual and accompanying instructional DVD further enhance the learning experience.
Adjustable Differential Feed
The 14SH754 includes an adjustable differential feed which gives you a high level of control over any fabric type of thickness, including delicate sheers and heavy linens. Adjusting the feed changes the speed with which each of the machine’s dual feed dogs operate and grip the fabric. The differential feed adjustment dial easily changes the ratio from 1:0.7mm to 1:2mm.
Rolled Hem Change-Over Feature
Compared to many other overlock machines in the entry-level class, this Singer model allows you to easily change into the rolled hem stitch mode without the effort of removing the needle plate. Simply moving the seam width finger knob to the “R” setting instantly retracts the seam width finger, allowing you to instantly switch to the rolled hem stitch option.
Adjustable Presser Foot Pressure
Being able to adjust the presser foot pressure to best suit the type and weight of the fabric you plan to use makes a big difference in fabric control and the perfection of your finished project. You can easily decrease the presser foot pressure when working on sheer fabrics by using the provided screwdriver to adjust a screw on top of the machine. To increase pressure for heavier fabrics, simply turn the screw in the opposite direction.
Purchase of the Singer 14SH754 includes a 2-year manufacturer’s guarantee which covers repair costs and labor for defects in the machine or accessories which arise from faulty workmanship or materials.
Like all Singer sewing machines, the design and construction of the 14SH754 was formulated with the user in mind. For a small, lightweight machine, the stitch quality is consistent, producing professional results. Whilst this model does not include automatic features, it does offer an impressive ease-of-use factor. The adjustable differential feed and retractable upper cutting blade provide you with better control over all types of fabric, although the machine’s lighter weight may make working with heavier fabrics somewhat of a challenge. The accessory package included contains a variety of tools and extra parts, including a lower looper spreader.
