Fast & Fun Halloween Sewing Projects

Stretch your creative sewing skills by stitching up some charming Halloween-themed decorations, gifts and home décor items. This highly popular holiday delights kids and adults alike. It’s the perfect holiday around which to build or expand your sewing skills!

Fast and Fun Halloween Sewing Projects

Part of the fun of sewing Halloween-themed décor and decorations is the ability to create a huge range of different looks using the same sewing pattern. The selections of Halloween fabrics on the market are seemingly endless – but all of them are fun to work with. The following Halloween sewing projects are fast, fun and easy enough for any novice sewist to complete.

Halloween-Themed Throw Pillows

These fun little throw pillows add an instant Halloween mood to your home! They’re so easy to make and half the fun is mixing or matching a variety of printed and solid fabrics. The easy-sew pattern can be adjusted to create any size pillow. You can even forget the stuffing and make covers for your existing throw pillows by simply adding a flap and Velcro closure!

Halloween Table Runner

If you’re new to sewing home décor, this simple, yet charming Halloween table runner will add some spooky ambiance to your kitchen or dining room. This example is constructed using three different Halloween-themed prints cut into strips. The strips are then quickly stitched together and attached to a single fabric length in a contrasting print. Bright orange rick rack adds visual interest! This easy pattern can either be cut down to make place mats or enlarged to fit a larger table. Nothing could be easier!

Easy Halloween Banner

If this is your first foray into sewing your own holiday decorations, making this fun Halloween banner is a great way to start! This cute Halloween banner is made of canvas, but you can choose any type of Halloween print, solid, or striped fabric. If you’re not up to hand-cutting and appliqueing letters, you can always cut out some spooky bats or ghosts and sew them onto the banner. Let your imagination go!!

Trick or Treat Bag

There isn’t a ghoul or goblin out there who wouldn’t love to carry his or her own custom trick-or-treat bag while making the neighborhood Halloween rounds. This easy drawstring bag can be sized for each of your little trick or treaters and they’re sturdy enough to hold lots of goodies! You can personalize each bag with felt or fabric appliques cut into Halloween shapes or letters. Have a blast!

Little Ghost and Kitty Plushies

This cuddly little ghost or Halloween kitty is sure to become a favorite with any little goblin who doesn’t eat candy treats. Both plushies are so easy to make that you’ll have plenty of time to experiment with a variety of fabrics and colors. If you prefer not to use paint on the fabric, you can easily create eyes and smiles using contrasting embroidery silk. The beauty of these simple patterns is being able to size them to fit each recipient.

Halloween Stockings

There’s no reason to limit hanging stockings by the fire to Christmas! These gorgeous felt or fabric treat holders are the perfect gift for any and all your in-house trick-or-treaters, friends or relatives. You can personalize each one for every goblin on your list! Once your patterns are cut out, each stocking takes less than five minutes to assemble. You can even incorporate stocking decorating into your Halloween celebrations!

Pumpkin Wall Hanging

This charming, simply constructed wall hanging is a great Halloween sewing project for new sewists. Felt is one of the easiest fabrics to work with and the opportunities to customize this charming pattern are endless. If you have little ones who want to take part in decorating for Halloween but are too young to carve pumpkins, a pair of safety scissors, black felt and their innate creativity will allow them to design their own (longer-lasting) jack-o-lanterns!

Halloween Baby Bib

Whether or not you plan to dress up the latest addition to your family, this sweet little appliqued bib will turn any onesie into an instant costume. You can go with the included pattern or choose your own design and fabrics. If you decide to avoid the appliques, try a more simple design using vivid Halloween prints featuring bats, goblins, pumpkins or witches!

Bow Wow Halloween Dog Bandana

There’s no reason to leave Fido out of the Halloween fun this year! Not all pet owners like to dress up their best friends in a full costume, so why not whip up a few Halloween-themed bandannas that slip right onto your pet’s collar. These easy-to-follow patterns can be easily sized to fit the smallest or largest dog in town! In fact, with a little creative resizing, you can also make a few for your Halloween cat. They also make the perfect gift for friends and relatives with fur babies of their own!

Halloween Lampshade Covers

If you really want to add some Halloween ambiance to your home, these three different lampshade covers are sure to do the trick. The link below includes complete instructions for creating a Halloween-themed barrel lamp shade cover, a round lamp shade cover, a square lamp shade cover and a no-sew way to decorate a peel & stick lampshade. These lamp shade covers are a great idea for decorating your child’s room, too!

It’s never too late to get into the true ‘spirit’ of Halloween by stitching up some handmade treats and decorations. All these Halloween sewing projects make wonderful, long-lasting gifts and keepsakes that can be passed down through generations. Happy Halloween!
