Review

This compact, yet sturdy little machine offers you a variety of useful features at a very reasonable price. In addition to 50 built-in stitches, it includes an LED screen that allows you to choose the perfect stitch for any project, a stitch chart on the front of the chassis and the option of using dual needles. While the 5 buttonhole size options are pre-set, this little workhorse does a clean, even job every time.

Stitch Options

With 87 stitch functions, 50 built-in stitch options and 5 automatic buttonhole choices, the Brother CS5055PRW is any sewist’s dream. In addition to straight, zig zag, and scallop stitches, stitch options include a blind hem stitch, overcasting stitch, two decorative fagoting stitches and two types of applique stitches. The largest buttonhole stitch is 28mm in length. All other stitch widths and lengths can be selected on the LCD screen. When using any stitch other than a zig zag or straight stitch, you can easily lock the stitches by simply pressing the reverse/reinforcement stitch button. This will cause the machine to automatically make 3 to 5 perfect lock stitches without marring your work.

Product Features

Automatic Needle Threader

With the simple touch of a lever, the built-in needle threader pushes a large thread loop smoothly and quickly through the needle’s eye. A handy hook included as part of the accessory package instantly grabs the loop, allowing you to draw the thread through the machine. This feature is great for beginners or those who have difficulty threading needles.

Vertical Spool Pin

This feature is rarely found on machines in this price class, but it’s a very handy setup. In addition to reducing snags and ensuring a smoother, more consistent thread feed, especially when using specialty or metallic threads. The vertical position also makes winding the bobbin a less frustrating experience. Additionally, the drop-in bobbin unit holds the bobbin securely, providing snug, even stitches.

Adjustable Feed Dog System

The Brother CS5055PRW has a well-designed 7-point feed dog system that ensures all fabric types and thicknesses will be evenly fed beneath the needle. In addition to keeping stitches more precise and uniform, it prevents certain fabrics from bunching or puckering while sewing. The system also includes the creativity-inducing option of dropping the feed dogs for free-hand sewing or quilting.

Computerized LCD Screen

The well-lit LCD screen not only allows you to clearly see which stitch option you’d like to choose, it also tells you what presser foot to use with each stitch selection. The display screen also includes information on the length and width setting for each stitch. A handy stitch chart printed on the front of the machine makes deciding which stitch to use even easier.

Warranties

The Brother CS5055PRW sewing machine includes a limited 25-year warranty on the machine and additional parts and a 2-year warranty on circuit boards and electrical components.
