Review

The compact, lightweight M1034D is fast, efficient and easy to operate, allowing users complete control when sewing. The free arm can be easily exposed to put a professional finish on sleeves, cuffs, pants legs or smaller projects. Threading the machine is quick and easy, a great advantage to those new to overlockers. It includes enough features to impress experienced users, such as an easy looper threading system, a wide range of stitch options and a retractable knife blade. While its plastic construction makes it somewhat noisy during use, purchase of an overlocker pad to put beneath the machine can greatly reduce that problem.

Stitch Options

With an impressive 22 built-in stitch options, this compact overlocker offers users a wealth of choices. Some of those include 3- and 4-thread overlock stitches, rolled and narrow hem stitches, ribbon lock stitches and specialty stitch options, including decorative, crafting, heirloom, bridal wear and reinforced tape stitching applications. Additionally, stitch width can be adjusted from 5mm to 7mm and stitch length is adjustable from 2.5mm to 3.0mm. This feature allows you to choose the perfect stitch size for all your sewing projects.

Product Features

F.A.S.T. Lower Looper Threading System

The Fast and Simple Threading system on the M1034D erases the frustrations usually associated with the lower looper threading process. The control dials for this system are conveniently located on the left side of the machine for easier access.

Adjustable Differential Feed

Having the ability to adjust the differential feed helps produce consistently beautiful, even stitches whether working with lightweight or sheer fabrics, heavy denims or stretchy fabrics. The adjustable fabric feed on this machine allows you to customize it to fit the fabric you’re currently working with and gives you more precise control over how the fabric moves beneath the needles. The differential feed ratio ranges from 0.7 to 2.0.

Free Arm Option

This feature allows you to complete a range of sewing projects with far more ease and control. This feature allows you to more easily work on sleeves, cuffs and smaller, more intricate projects such as infant or children’s clothing. Exposing the free arm is as simple as unlocking and sliding the sewing bed off the machine.

Retractable Knife Blade

Being able to retract the cutting blade is another major feature on this overlocker machine. It allows you to sink the upper blade beneath the surface of the sewing bed when you do not wish to trim seam ends or work on specialty projects.

Warranties

Brother includes a 3-year warranty on this machine, which includes the replacement or repair of manufacturing defects, mechanical failure, electrical components and defective parts.

Verdict

In addition to the incredible ease of use related to the Brother M1034D overlocker machine, the several built-in features make it a pleasure to operate. All are simple enough for beginners to understand and use, while still advanced enough for more experienced users to appreciate. The number of stitch options is impressive on such a low-cost machine. Despite its size and weight, this overlocker is strong enough to handle a wide range of fabrics … and it uses household sewing machine needles!
