Review

This new Brother model is the first serger in the Project Runway line. Designed for home and professional use, the 5234PRW offers beginners and experts ease-of-use, a great range of stitch options and a high speed of 1,300 stitches per minute. The large extension table (13.75 inches by 10 inches) adds invaluable work space and the dual LED bulbs ensure bright, consistent lighting where you need it. The free arm function means easier access to small and intricate projects and the adjustable differential feed unfailingly produces clean, secure stitches.

Stitch Options

This machine offers little more than basic stitch options,
but does include the ability to adjust both the stitch length and width. In
addition to 2-, 3- and 4-thread wide and narrow overlock stitches, the Limited
Edition 5234PRW includes 2-thread wide and narrow rolled hem stitches, flatlock
and blind hem stitches. Stitch width is adjustable between 3.0 mm and 7.0 mm
and the stitch length can be adjusted between 0.8 mm and 4.0 mm. This model
includes a blind hem presser foot and gathering presser foot.

Specifications

Speed: 1,300 stitches per minute
Threads: 2-3-4
Color-Coded: Yes
Light: 2 LEDs
Weight: 13.5 lbs.
Dimensions: 15.5 inches by 17.5 inches by 14.75 inches

Product Features

One-Touch Tension Control

This serger is designed to allow you to control the tension
settings on all threads in use with the turn of a central tension control dial
located conveniently on the right side of the machine. The dial works in
coordination with the color-coded tension disks.

Adjustable Differential Feed

This serger contains two sets of fully adjustable feed dogs
that operate beneath the presser foot to smoothly move all types and layers of
fabrics through the machine. Adjusting the speed of the dogs prevents puckering
on sheer and lightweight fabrics and rippling on stretchy fabrics. The feed
ratio on this component can be easily adjusted between 0.7 mm and 2.0 mm by
turning a dial on the right side of the machine.

Free-Arm Function

This machine offers you the option of making an easy change to a free arm work area. Simply remove the bed extension when you wish to put a clean, professional finish on sleeves, cuffs, pants legs, collars, when adding pretty lettuce edges on sheer fabrics, or when working on intricate projects or hard to reach areas.

Adjustable Presser Foot Pressure

The 5234PRW includes the useful ability to change the amount of pressure the presser foot places on different fabric types, layers, or weights. This feature ensures that all fabrics move smoothly beneath the needles without slipping or stalling. Setting the presser foot properly also helps to keep stitch size uniform. The presser foot can be lifted to a top height of 6 mm.

Warranties

Purchase of this serger includes a 25-year limited warranty on mechanical parts, a 5-year warranty on electrical components and a 1-year warranty on labor.

Like all Brother sergers, this model is exceptionally user-friendly, solidly constructed and produces professional finishes on all types and weights of fabric. While the stitch options aren’t as varied as other models, all the stitches included are well-formed, even, smooth and secure. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, this Brother serger offers you some of the best features available in any comparable serger.
