Review

The features and functions that this machine boasts are too numerous to list here. In addition to the vertical position of the needles, which prevent damage to fabrics, the Baby Lock Cover Stitch BLCS-2 features a new knife system with a larger cutting area. This ensures clean, even cuts through even the thickest fabrics. The cover stitch function includes an automatic chain-off feature, which reduces time and frustration and the needles can be threaded by simply moving a lever. Convenience and ease-of-use are definitely additional built-in features on this serger.

Stitch Options

The technological advances Baby Lock installed in this serger aren’t limited to mechanical parts. In addition to the exclusive Wave Stitch option, the BLCS-2 includes a narrow, wide, and triple-needle coverstitch with a width range of 3 mm to 6 mm, 2- and 3-thread rolled hem stitches and a 2- and 3-thread chainstitch. Stitch lengths can be adjusted between 1 mm and 4 mm.

Product Features

Jet-Air Looper Threading

Threading a serger manually is often a time-consuming, frustrating process, but Baby Lock’s proprietary Jet Air threading system turns this difficult process into a one-touch function. Threading the BLCS-2 is as easy as pressing the threading lever. It instantly sends the threads smoothly through the looper tubes without the need to manually run it through any thread guides.

Fabric Support System

This advanced feature ensures every stitch is flush and balanced on any fabric type or thickness, even when working at the highest speed. In addition, this system allows you to make adjustments to both the cutting and seam widths at the same time because the built-in stitch fingers move at the same speed as the cutting blade.

Automatic Thread Delivery

This innovative system has eliminated the need for constantly adjusting tension controls. This ensures a consistently smooth, balanced stitch. Simply select the stitch you plan to use and the thread delivery system will automatically make the necessary tension adjustments.

Tubular Looper System

Never again worry about threads snagging or making threading errors. The patented enclosed looper system protects the threads as they smoothly glide through the system. This also prevents potential tangles. In addition, you can thread the loopers in any order you please: there are no longer threading rules to follow.

Warranties

The coverage on the Baby Lock Cover Stitch machine includes a 25-year limited warranty, a 10-year warranty on parts, a 5-year warranty on electrical components, and a 1-year labor warranty.

Verdict

The design team went all out on this model. In addition to three-needle capability, the Baby Lock Cover Stitch BLCS-2 includes enough automatic features to impress any home sewist or professional tailor. From the color-coded tension system to the full-feature differential feed with an adjustable ratio of 0.6 to 2.0, nearly every function on this serger was designed with the user in mind. The price might seem staggering compared to other models, but if speed and convenience are musts, it might be worth it to try this serger on for size.
